About the Guides

The Getting Ready for Life After High School Guides began in the early 70’s and were produced and developed by the San Mateo County Office of Education.

In 1997, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) began maintaining the Guides.  To date, an estimated 4.5 million Guides have been distributed to districts, schools and deserving students.

Today, Educate California has adapted and maintains the Guides to empower parents / families to be informed and actively involved in their children’s education through our LifePrep Academy workshops and technology based programs.

Our LifePrep Academy: College, Career and Life Planning guides feature 80 pages of essential information for students and their families.  The are 3 very important sections to empower youth – Preparing for Life: Your High School Diploma, Going on the Journey of Life: Life After High School and Healthy Living and Effective Personal/Social Skills.  Each section features numerous links to websites where students can further their research and knowledge.

To complement the Planning Guides, we offer the LifePrep Academy: Digital Scholarship Directory for California high school and college students.  The Scholarship Directory provides direct links to websites that outline the entire financial aid process – with federal and state based resources – along with 150 merit and needs based scholarships for underrepresented students.
